Health check, pool'daki her üyeye belirli aralıklarla istek gönderir; yanıt vermeyen üye trafikten çıkarılır, tekrar yanıt vermeye başlayınca geri alınır. Trafiği birden fazla sunucuya sürekli dağıtmak için adresi Load Balancer’a verin. Adresin trafik taşıması için sunucunun subnet’i, NAT’ı açık bir Router’a bağlı olmalıdır. Subnet planı, hangi subnet’in hangi Router’a bağlanacağı, statik rotalar ve Security Group kuralları ekibinize aittir. Backup entegrasyonu Kubernetes PVC yedekleme akışını destekler. Evet. Her küçük uygulama Kubernetes gerektirmez. **GPU paylaşımı her zaman maliyeti düşürür mü?** Hayır. Paylaşım kullanım oranını artırabilir fakat contention nedeniyle gecikme veya iş tamamlama süresi yükselirse toplam maliyet ve servis kalitesi kötüleşebilir. Karar eş zamanlı yük testiyle verilmelidir. ### Bulut Yedekleme Nedir? ETag, her akışta tam içerik checksum’u değildir. ## Sık Sorulan Sorular (SSS) URL: https://www.portvmind.com/sss/ ### PortvMind Cloud nedir? VDS, VPS and cloud server name the same need. **Key features:** - Virtual-server profiles with CPU and RAM sized for the workload - Block Storage for persistent data and Backup for the protection plan - Browser console and remote access - Per-minute pay-as-you-go billing - Backup for instance protection, backup frequency and the restore path - Operating-system image, flavor, quota and access chosen on the setup screen **VPS, Virtual Server and Cloud Instance:** VPS and virtual server are market names for virtual-server packages. On PortvMind Cloud that need is Compute: you create and grow servers from the console or API and pay as you go. **Sizing a Cloud Virtual Server:** Web, database and AI workloads need different resources. Choose a profile in the console and grow the server as demand grows. **What Shapes Virtual Server Cost?:** Total cost does not depend on the virtual-server label alone. The CPU/RAM profile, attached storage, backup, public IP, load balancing, data transfer and runtime are priced together. Billing is pay-as-you-go and per minute. You can see current prices in the cost calculator. **Moving an Existing Server:** Move your application, disk and DNS records to PortvMind Cloud Compute. Try it on a test server first, then complete the cutover. **Use cases:** - Web and mobile application hosting - AI/ML model training and inference (with GPU servers) - Rapidly spinning up and tearing down Prod/Dev/Test/QA environments - Scaling for sudden traffic spikes during campaigns **Cost factors:** - CPU and RAM profile - Runtime and attached disks - Public IP, traffic and backup **Service notes:** - Quota and capacity appear in your project settings. - Regions are limited to İstanbul (tr-ist-01) and Ankara (tr-ank-01). **Related content on Discuss:** - [Yeni Sanal Makine Oluşturma](https://discuss.portvmind.com/t/yeni-sanal-makine-olusturma/25): Creating your first virtual server through the panel, step by step. ### Block Storage URL: https://www.portvmind.com/en/services/block-storage/ Status: Available Category: storage Block Storage is a persistent disk volume attached to a virtual server. You create it as needed and move it between servers. **Key features:** - Persistent storage independent of the server — data survives even if the server is deleted - Create and expand volumes on demand - Attach/detach volumes between servers - Volume backup integration with the Backup service - Per-minute billing based on used capacity **Persistence and Flexibility:** Block Storage volumes have a lifecycle independent of virtual servers. Even if you shut down and delete a server, your data on the volume is preserved and can be attached to another server. This eliminates the risk of data loss while reshaping your infrastructure. **Backup Integration:** The PortvMind Cloud Backup service includes volume support: you can create and update backups of your block storage volumes and Kubernetes PVCs through the panel and track them with e-mail notifications. **Use cases:** - Data disks for database servers - Persistent storage for application and log data - Backend for Kubernetes PVCs (Persistent Volume Claims) **Cost factors:** - Provisioned volume capacity - Usage duration - Backup and data movement **Service notes:** - Quota and capacity appear in your project settings. - Regions are limited to İstanbul (tr-ist-01) and Ankara (tr-ank-01). ### VKE — vMind Kubernetes Engine URL: https://www.portvmind.com/en/services/vke-kubernetes/ Status: Available Category: containers VKE is vMind’s open-source Kubernetes engine. VKE runs the cluster infrastructure; you run the application. **Key features:** - An open-source Kubernetes engine developed by vMind - Node-level autoscaling - Automatic load balancers for Kubernetes services - Automatic storage classes for persistent data - Repeatable cluster provisioning with Terraform and APIs - Applications, images and access policy stay with your team **Managed versus Self-Managed Kubernetes:** In a self-managed Kubernetes model, your team installs the control plane and handles version upgrades, high availability and core cluster operations. With VKE, the control plane is part of the managed service. You select the Kubernetes version when you create the cluster. Upgrade options are in the console and in the VKE documentation. **Your Layer and Ours:** VKE operates the cluster resource lifecycle. Application images, secrets, access and network policy, data protection and workload observability stay in your layer. **Networking and Persistent Data:** Use a public Load Balancer when the service must be reachable from the internet, and an internal Load Balancer when it should stay on the project network. A persistent volume attaches to the pod through a storage class. For stateful workloads, plan protection with Block Storage and Backup. **Capacity, GPU and Cost:** You set the worker profile and the scale limit during setup. After that, the node count rises and falls with the workload. H100, H200 and L40S servers are on Compute. Managed Kubernetes on its own does not mean a GPU node. Charges follow the control plane, the worker profile, node count, persistent storage, load balancing, public IPs, data transfer, backup and runtime. Current prices are in the cost calculator. **Repeatable Provisioning with Terraform and APIs:** You recreate the same cluster definition with Terraform or the API. The definition covers the version, key pair, master and worker profiles, networking and API access. Project access is opened with an Application Credential. **Use cases:** - Microservice-based modern application architectures - CI/CD and container-based development workflows - APIs and web services with variable capacity needs **Cost factors:** - Worker node count and profile - Persistent storage and load balancing - Traffic, backup and runtime **Service notes:** - Quota and capacity appear in your project settings. - Regions are limited to İstanbul (tr-ist-01) and Ankara (tr-ank-01). **Related content on Discuss:** - [PortvMind Cloud'da Kubernetes Cluster Nasıl Oluşturulur?](https://discuss.portvmind.com/t/portvmind-cloudda-kubernetes-cluster-nasil-olusturulur/50): Creating a managed Kubernetes cluster with VKE and retrieving the kubeconfig. - [PortvMind Cloud VKE (PortvMind Kubernetes Engine) - Public LoadBalancer Yapılandırma Rehberi](https://discuss.portvmind.com/t/portvmind-vke-portvmind-kubernetes-engine-public-loadbalancer-yapilandirma-rehberi/46): Configuring a public Load Balancer to expose Kubernetes services. - [PortvMind Cloud VKE - Internal LoadBalancer Yapılandırma Rehberi](https://discuss.portvmind.com/t/portvmind-vke-internal-loadbalancer-yapilandirma-rehberi/45): Setting up an internal Load Balancer reachable only from the private network. ### Object Storage (S3-Compatible) URL: https://www.portvmind.com/en/services/object-storage/ Status: Available Category: storage Object Storage (PVOS) is S3-compatible object storage that keeps data in buckets. It is used for backups, archives, media and data lakes. **Key features:** - S3-compatible bucket and object access - Access through SDKs and S3 tools - Credential creation for access - Data organized by object key and metadata - Infrastructure located in Türkiye: İstanbul (tr-ist-01) and Ankara (tr-ank-01) **When Should You Choose Object Storage?:** Evaluate object storage when an application can read and write data by bucket and object key rather than through an attached disk. Media, static assets, logs, archives, backup packages and datasets are typical candidates. Block storage can be more natural for operating-system disks, database files or frequent random block updates. Choose by access and update pattern before capacity. **What S3 Compatibility Covers:** You access buckets and objects through an S3-compatible API. The endpoint, region and credentials are created in the console. Supported operations are in the documentation. **S3 Migration Checklist:** Inventory source buckets, object count and size distribution, total data, metadata, ACLs or policies, versioning, lifecycle, encryption, object lock, the application endpoint and data-egress cost. Copy a small dataset and check checksums. Define dual-write or a maintenance window, endpoint cutover and rollback. **Data Location and Cost Scope:** Object Storage runs on infrastructure located in Türkiye. Regions are limited to İstanbul (tr-ist-01) and Ankara (tr-ank-01). Cost follows stored data, request count and data transfer. You can see current prices in the cost calculator. **Use cases:** - Application backups and archiving (with S3-compatible tools) - Storing static web content, images and media files - Raw data layer for data lakes and analytics workloads **Cost factors:** - Stored data volume - Request and data transfer pattern - Retention and lifecycle approach **Service notes:** - Quota and capacity appear in your project settings. - Regions are limited to İstanbul (tr-ist-01) and Ankara (tr-ank-01). **Related content on Discuss:** - [PortvMind Cloud'da Object Storage Nasıl Kullanılır?](https://discuss.portvmind.com/t/portvmind-cloudda-object-storage-nasil-kullanilir/52): Creating buckets, access keys and file operations with S3 clients. ### Load Balancer (L4/L7) URL: https://www.portvmind.com/en/services/load-balancer/ Status: Available Category: network Load Balancer is an L4 and L7 service that distributes traffic across servers. A health check removes an unhealthy server from traffic. **Key features:** - Load balancing at L4 (TCP/UDP) and L7 (HTTP/HTTPS) - Automatic failure isolation with health checks - Traffic distribution for horizontally scaling applications - Integrated operation with VKE and Compute services **High Availability:** The Load Balancer continuously monitors its server pool with health checks. Unresponsive servers are automatically removed from traffic and re-added once healthy. Single-server failures are therefore never visible to your users. **AppBalancer or NetBalancer?:** The setup flow in the console starts with one of two types. AppBalancer works at the application layer (L7) for HTTP and HTTPS; it understands requests, so distribution by application-level data such as path or header and HTTP health checks are possible. NetBalancer works at the transport layer (L4) for TCP and UDP; it does not inspect content, forwards the connection as-is, and is chosen for non-HTTP traffic such as databases, game servers or custom protocols. Because the choice fixes the layer at which balancing happens, it is not changed later; a new load balancer is created instead. **Listener, Pool and Health Check:** A load balancer is defined by three components. The listener sets which port and protocol the balancer accepts traffic on. The pool is the group of backend servers traffic is distributed to, and the distribution algorithm is chosen there. The health check sends a request to every pool member at an interval; a member that stops responding is removed from traffic and re-added once it responds again. Choose the path and expected response of the health check so that it reflects the real state of the backend application; a check that only asks whether the port is open will count an application that is up but failing as healthy. **Public Exposure, TLS and Certificates:** The load balancer is created on a private subnet and exposed to the internet through a Floating IP, so backend servers do not need public addresses of their own. For HTTPS, where the certificate is terminated is an architectural choice: terminated at the balancer, backends can speak HTTP; terminated at the backend, the balancer passes the connection through. Certificate and key material is kept in Security > Key Manager in the console. Backend Security Group rules accept traffic only from the balancer's address. **Responsibility Boundary:** PortvMind Cloud operates the load balancer, the distribution layer and Floating IP routing. Listener and pool definitions, the health check, the certificate lifecycle and backend capacity belong to your team. Quota appears under Quota. Load-balancer and traffic cost appears in the cost calculator. **Use cases:** - Availability for high-traffic web applications - Distributing microservice and API traffic - Zero-downtime (rolling) deployment scenarios **Cost factors:** - Load balancer runtime - Traffic and attached resources - Public IP and additional network components **Service notes:** - Quota and capacity appear in your project settings. - Regions are limited to İstanbul (tr-ist-01) and Ankara (tr-ank-01). **Related content on Discuss:** - [PortvMind Cloud VKE (PortvMind Kubernetes Engine) - Public LoadBalancer Yapılandırma Rehberi](https://discuss.portvmind.com/t/portvmind-vke-portvmind-kubernetes-engine-public-loadbalancer-yapilandirma-rehberi/46): Configuring a public Load Balancer to expose Kubernetes services. - [PortvMind Cloud VKE - Internal LoadBalancer Yapılandırma Rehberi](https://discuss.portvmind.com/t/portvmind-vke-internal-loadbalancer-yapilandirma-rehberi/45): Setting up an internal Load Balancer reachable only from the private network. ### Floating IP (Public IP) URL: https://www.portvmind.com/en/services/floating-ip/ Status: Available Category: network A Floating IP is a static public address you move between resources. You shift traffic without changing the DNS record. **Key features:** - Static public IP — your address stays fixed even if the resource is recreated - Move (re-associate) between resources within seconds - Failover scenarios without DNS changes **Flexible Traffic Management:** Floating IP addresses are independent of the server lifecycle. When you replace a server, simply move the IP to the new one; your customers notice nothing and there is no DNS propagation wait. **How Allocation and Association Work:** A Floating IP is used in two steps. First, allocate an address from Network > Floating IP with "New Floating IP"; the console allocates it through a single confirmation dialog and reserves the address from the pool for your account. Then attach it to a server: the "Associate Floating IP" entry in the action menu on the instance detail page maps the allocated address to the server's port on the private network. The same menu disassociates it so the address can move to another server. For the address to work, the server's subnet must be attached to a router with NAT enabled; the "Enable NAT" option in the router creation dialog grants exactly that. **What Happens in an Active-Passive Switchover:** In failover you move the address to the standby server. DNS, allow-lists and integration endpoints stay the same. To keep distributing traffic across several servers, give the address to a Load Balancer. **Where the Responsibility Boundary Begins:** PortvMind Cloud operates the address pool, routing of the address through the Router and the NAT layer. Which server the address is attached to, which ports that server's Security Group exposes, the operating-system firewall and the DNS records belong to your team. A public address is reachable from the internet, so leave only the required ports open in the Security Group before associating it, for example 443. Presets such as "HTTPS" fill the port and source range automatically. **Setup Order:** How many addresses you can allocate depends on your account quota and is shown under Quota. For the address to carry traffic, the server subnet must be attached to a router with NAT enabled. The setup order is Router, subnet attachment, then Floating IP. **Use cases:** - Internet-facing web servers and API endpoints - Fast switchover in active-passive failover setups - Integrations requiring a whitelisted fixed IP **Cost factors:** - Allocated IP and usage duration - Attached resource lifecycle - Traffic and data transfer **Service notes:** - Quota and capacity appear in your project settings. - Regions are limited to İstanbul (tr-ist-01) and Ankara (tr-ank-01). **Related content on Discuss:** - [Router Nedir? Nasıl Kullanılır?](https://discuss.portvmind.com/t/router-nedir-nasil-kullanilir/27): Routing between private networks and configuring internet egress. ### Router (Virtual Router) URL: https://www.portvmind.com/en/services/router/ Status: Available Category: network Router is the virtual router for traffic between private networks. You set the path with a static route. **Key features:** - Routing traffic between private networks and to the internet - Static route definition support - Ability to build multi-tier network topologies **Controlled Network Design:** By defining static routes on the router, you control which network traffic flows through. This is a fundamental building block for enterprise network architectures that require security zones and traffic flow control. **Router, Subnet and NAT:** A router is created in the console through a single dialog: a name, an optional description and the "Enable NAT" option. With NAT enabled, subnets attached to the router reach the internet through the router's NAT address and servers on the private network can receive Floating IPs; with NAT disabled, the router only routes between private networks and no subnet is exposed. That option is deliberately left off for segments such as a management network that must never reach the internet. **Ports and Static Routes:** The router detail page shows two tables. Ports lists which subnets the router is attached to; each row shows the port id, the router's fixed IP on that subnet (usually the subnet gateway address) and the MAC address, and "Add Port" attaches another subnet. Static Routes is filled with destination CIDR and next-hop pairs; it is used when a target network must be reached through a gateway the router does not know directly, such as an office network behind a VPN server. A route applies only to subnets attached to this router. **Segmentation with Security Groups:** The router routes between subnets while Security Groups decide which traffic reaches each server; together they form a tiered network. A common layout uses three subnets: an internet-facing web tier, an application tier reachable only from the web tier, and a data tier reachable only from the application tier. The rule dialog in the console offers presets such as SSH, HTTP, HTTPS, MySQL and RDP; choosing one fills protocol and port, and the source field takes a CIDR or another Security Group. Use "0.0.0.0/0" as the source only on ports that genuinely must be open to everyone. **Responsibility Boundary:** PortvMind Cloud operates the router, the NAT layer and the ports attached to the router. The subnet plan, which subnet attaches to which router, static routes and Security Group rules belong to your team. Router and subnet quota appears under Quota. Traffic that leaves for the internet through NAT falls under Network Data Transfer. **Use cases:** - Isolating application, database and management networks - Hybrid connectivity and custom routing scenarios **Cost factors:** - Router runtime - Connected networks and subnets - Traffic and external connectivity components **Service notes:** - Quota and capacity appear in your project settings. - Regions are limited to İstanbul (tr-ist-01) and Ankara (tr-ank-01). **Related content on Discuss:** - [Router Nedir? How It Works and When to Use It URL: https://www.portvmind.com/en/resources/what-is-kubernetes/ Kubernetes is an open-source orchestration platform that automates the deployment, scaling and lifecycle of containerized applications. It does not write application code and is not a container runtime by itself. Instead, it continuously compares your declared desired state with the actual state of a cluster, schedules pods, replaces failed workloads and routes service traffic to available replicas. #### What is Kubernetes used for? Imagine an ecommerce API that must run with three replicas. You declare that desired state through a Deployment. If a pod stops responding, Kubernetes replaces it. When traffic grows, the replica count can increase, new pods are placed on suitable worker nodes and a Service directs traffic to healthy pods. This control loop brings deployment, horizontal scaling, service discovery and self-healing under one operating model. ConfigMaps and Secrets help separate configuration from the application image, while persistent volumes keep state outside an individual pod lifecycle. - Declarative deployment and controlled updates - Replacement of failed pods - Service discovery and traffic routing - Horizontal scaling as demand changes - Configuration, secret and persistent data management #### How does Kubernetes work? A Kubernetes cluster consists of a control plane and one or more worker nodes. The API server is the entry point used by people and automation. The scheduler selects a suitable node for a new pod. Controllers watch the difference between declared and actual state and initiate the required corrections. On each worker node, kubelet monitors the pods assigned to it. A container runtime runs images and networking components connect pods and services. When a CI/CD workflow submits a new image and Deployment definition, the control plane records it, the scheduler decides placement and nodes converge toward the new state. #### Core Kubernetes components A cluster contains all control plane and worker node resources. A node is the physical or virtual machine where pods run. A pod is the smallest deployable Kubernetes unit and can contain one or more containers that share networking and storage context. A Deployment describes which image should run and how many replicas are required. A ReplicaSet maintains that replica count. A Service creates a stable access point independent of short-lived pod IP addresses. ClusterIP provides in-cluster access, NodePort exposes a port on nodes and LoadBalancer requests an external load balancer when the cloud integration supports it. ConfigMaps hold non-sensitive settings, while Secrets represent sensitive configuration data. For durable data, an application requests storage through a PersistentVolumeClaim and a suitable PersistentVolume is bound to it. This relationship creates a storage layer that can outlive a recreated pod. #### What is the difference between Docker and Kubernetes? Docker and similar container tools are used to build application images and run containers. Kubernetes is the orchestration layer that places, scales and keeps many containers available across a group of machines. They are not direct substitutes: the container build workflow and cluster operations solve different responsibilities. #### When should you use Kubernetes? Kubernetes is a strong fit for applications with multiple services and teams, frequent CI/CD deployments, automatic scaling requirements and a need for a declarative infrastructure standard. As microservice count and operational requirements grow, a common orchestration model can reduce repeated manual work. For a small single-server application, a team with limited operations capacity or a workload that does not need cluster-level scaling and resilience, Kubernetes can add unnecessary complexity. A virtual server or a simpler application runtime may be easier to understand and operate. #### What is managed Kubernetes? In a self-managed model, the team owns more of control plane setup, cluster lifecycle and infrastructure integration. Managed Kubernetes turns a defined part of those responsibilities into a provider service. The application team still owns workload definitions, access policies, resource requests and workload observability. PortvMind Cloud VKE provides managed cluster creation through the panel, Infrastructure as Code with Terraform, multi-cluster management and an asynchronous, traceable cluster lifecycle. Its Backup integration supports Kubernetes PVC backup workflows. VKE is the open-source Kubernetes engine developed by vMind and automatically provides node-level autoscaling, load balancers and storage classes. #### Frequently Asked Questions **What is Kubernetes used for?** Kubernetes is an open-source orchestration platform that deploys, scales and keeps container applications available across a cluster. It maintains the requested replica count, replaces failed pods and routes service traffic to suitable pods. **How is Kubernetes different from Docker?** Docker and similar tools focus on building images and running containers. Kubernetes is the orchestration layer that places and operates many containers across multiple nodes. They are not direct alternatives. **What is the difference between a pod, node and cluster?** A pod is the smallest deployable Kubernetes unit. A node is the physical or virtual machine where pods run. A cluster is the complete system containing the control plane, worker nodes and their resources. **What is managed Kubernetes?** Managed Kubernetes is a model where a provider operates a defined portion of cluster infrastructure and lifecycle as a service. Application teams remain responsible for their workload definitions, security policies and resource management. **Does every project need Kubernetes?** No. Kubernetes complexity can outweigh its value for a small single-server application or a team with limited operations capacity. It becomes more useful when multiple services, frequent deployments, scaling and high availability are required. ### What Is a GPU Server? How to Choose One for Your Workload URL: https://www.portvmind.com/en/resources/what-is-a-gpu-server/ A GPU server is a server with one or more graphics processing units that accelerate parallel compute alongside the CPU and system memory. Choosing one requires more than comparing GPU models. Model and dataset size, GPU memory, numerical precision, software compatibility, CPU and RAM balance, storage throughput, networking and total runtime all shape the right configuration. #### What is a GPU server? A GPU server runs parallel-friendly computation on the GPU while the CPU handles the operating system, application control and sequential work. AI frameworks, scientific libraries and rendering engines can use a supported GPU software stack to execute many similar operations concurrently. Not every application becomes faster with a GPU. If work is small, sequential or dominated by data transfer, a stronger CPU, more system memory or faster storage may have greater impact. The first selection step is measuring where the workload actually waits. #### CPU server versus GPU server A CPU is a general-purpose processor suited to a smaller number of complex, branching tasks with low latency. A GPU is designed to run many similar calculations in parallel. Matrix operations, image processing, model training and some simulations may fit the GPU, while web control flow, database queries and serial business logic usually remain CPU work. A production system uses both resources together. If the CPU cannot prepare data or handle requests quickly enough, the GPU can sit idle. If system memory or storage throughput is insufficient, data may not reach GPU memory on time. A larger GPU alone does not create a balanced server. #### What should you evaluate when choosing a GPU server? First classify the workload as training, fine-tuning, inference, rendering or HPC. Then measure GPU memory needs and numerical precision for one run. Verify that the framework, libraries and container image support the target GPU architecture, driver and CUDA software layer. For multi-GPU work, evaluate inter-GPU communication as well as whether the model fits into memory. Large datasets make object storage access, local caching and network transfer part of training time. Compare total cost using completion time, GPU count and runtime together. - GPU memory and model or dataset size - Precision, framework and compute capability compatibility - CPU, system memory and data preparation capacity - Disk, object storage and network throughput - Single or multi-GPU communication requirements - Runtime, completion time and total cost #### Choose a GPU by workload For model training, batch size, model parameters, optimizer state and precision shape GPU memory demand. For inference, latency, concurrent requests and cost per token or sample matter alongside fitting the model into memory. Rendering depends on engine support, scene memory and frame completion time, while HPC depends on numerical precision and library compatibility. The most reliable comparison is a benchmark using a representative dataset and the same software versions. Vendor peak figures do not by themselves reflect differences in model, precision, batch size, networking and software. Validate the decision with a metric from the real workload. #### How should H100 and H200 be evaluated? H100 and H200 are data-center GPU families based on NVIDIA Hopper architecture for AI and HPC workloads. H100 covers a broad range of training, inference and scientific computing use cases. H200 uses a larger and faster HBM3e memory design and is evaluated for memory-intensive generative AI, large language model and HPC scenarios. The model name alone is not enough for selection. Evaluate form factor, GPU memory, GPU count, interconnect and software image together with the configuration. #### GPU cloud or physical server investment? For short experiments, periodic training, variable inference demand or testing different GPU options, cloud access can reduce hardware procurement and operations work. For continuous, predictable high utilization, physical investment should also be modeled against total cost of ownership. PortvMind Cloud GPU / AI Compute can connect GPU resources with Compute, VKE/Kubernetes and S3-compatible Object Storage in one workload architecture. Total cost should account for GPU model and count, CPU and RAM, storage, network usage and runtime. #### Frequently Asked Questions **What is a GPU server used for?** A GPU server accelerates parallel-friendly workloads such as AI training, inference, image and video processing, rendering, data analytics and some scientific simulations. The workload must support the relevant GPU software stack. **Why does GPU memory matter?** If a model, tensors, batch, scene or working data do not fit into GPU memory, the workload must be reduced, partitioned or distributed across multiple GPUs. Memory capacity can determine whether the job runs at all before performance is considered. **Should you choose H100 or H200?** The choice depends on model and dataset size, memory needs, precision, target completion time and the available configuration. H200 is evaluated for memory-intensive work, while H100 covers a broad AI and HPC range. Close the choice with a representative benchmark. **How is GPU server cost calculated?** Total cost includes GPU model and count, CPU and RAM, storage, network usage and runtime. Compare job completion time and resource utilization together rather than using hourly price alone. **Does every application become faster with a GPU?** No. Small, sequential, highly branching or data-transfer-bound work may see limited benefit. Measure CPU, memory, storage and network bottlenecks first, then test a supported GPU code path with the real workload. ### Object Storage Architecture: How It Differs from Block Storage URL: https://www.portvmind.com/en/resources/object-storage-architecture/ Object storage keeps data in buckets as independent objects containing the data, a unique key and metadata rather than filesystem blocks. Applications typically access these objects through an HTTP-based, S3-compatible API. Block storage presents a disk volume to a server, where the operating system runs a filesystem or database. The object model is evaluated for media, backups, archives and data lakes, while the block model suits operating-system disks, databases and workloads that need low-latency random reads and writes. #### What is object storage? Object storage stores each piece of data as an independent object. An object combines the content itself, an object key that is unique within its bucket and metadata such as content type or application-specific fields. An application requests the object by bucket and key rather than by a filesystem path or disk block. A bucket is the logical container for objects. Slashes inside a key can create a folder-like view, but that view is not the same as a traditional filesystem hierarchy. This distinction supports API-based addressing and a shared namespace for large collections of unstructured data. #### How does object storage architecture work? A client connects to the service endpoint and signs the request with its credentials. The request identifies the target bucket, object key and operation. After authorization, the service creates, reads, lists or deletes the object. Metadata such as an ETag, content type and application-defined fields helps identify and validate it. PortvMind Cloud Object Storage exposes an S3-compatible API and can be used with AWS SDKs and tools that support the S3 protocol. Integrations explicitly configure the endpoint, access key, secret key and the region value provided by the service. Connection steps and code examples are maintained separately in the product documentation. - Bucket: the logical container for objects - Object key: the unique address inside a bucket - Metadata: descriptive information managed with the object - S3 API: the interface for upload, download, list and delete operations #### Object storage versus block storage Block storage attaches a raw, disk-like volume to a server. The operating system can create a filesystem on that volume, or a database can use an access model close to the underlying blocks. This model suits applications that frequently update small parts of existing data, need mounted-disk semantics and are sensitive to random read and write latency. Object storage exposes an object API instead of attaching a volume. An application retrieves an object by key or writes a new object version. It is well suited to managing large collections of media files, log outputs, backup packages, archives and analytics datasets as independent objects. Choose based on the application access and update pattern, not capacity alone. - Access: object storage by API, block storage as an attached disk - Unit: objects and metadata versus fixed-size blocks - Filesystem: not required for object storage, typically used on block storage - Workload: unstructured data collections versus disk-oriented applications #### Which model fits each workload? Image and video archives, static application assets, machine-learning datasets, backup files, log archives and data-lake layers are typical object storage candidates. These workloads produce independent objects and retrieve them through an API. Lifecycle, access permissions and metadata design should be planned together with the bucket structure. Virtual-machine operating-system disks, relational database files, transaction-heavy application disks and Kubernetes Persistent Volumes are more natural block storage candidates. Write latency, IOPS, throughput, volume expansion, snapshot and backup behavior into the requirements list. #### Can object and block storage be used together? Yes. In a modern cloud application, a Compute instance can run its operating system and database on block storage while user uploads, model files, report outputs and backups are written to object storage. In Kubernetes, stateful applications can use Persistent Volume Claims while application assets and datasets move to S3-compatible buckets. This separation uses each model for the access pattern it handles well. Document data flow, expected object size, update frequency, retention, recovery objectives and whether the application expects an API or a filesystem before choosing the architecture. #### Object Storage and Backup work together Object Storage stores backup files and archives through an S3-compatible API. Scheduled protection for servers, volumes and Kubernetes PVC resources comes with Backup. The two services complement each other in the same architecture: files and archives sit in Object Storage, resource backups sit in Backup. #### Frequently Asked Questions **What is object storage?** Object storage keeps data in buckets as independent objects containing the content, a unique object key and metadata. Applications usually access objects through an HTTP-based API. **What is the main difference between object and block storage?** Object storage exposes an object API addressed by bucket and key. Block storage attaches a disk-like volume to a server so a filesystem or database can run on it. The right choice depends on the application access and update pattern. **Is S3 a storage type or a protocol?** Amazon S3 is an object storage service. Its API model has become a widely used interface for bucket and object operations. S3-compatible services expose supported portions of those API behaviors through their own endpoints. **Can object storage be mounted like a normal disk?** Applications connect to Object Storage through an S3-compatible API. Use Block Storage for operating-system disks or database files. **Does object storage replace backup?** Object Storage is the destination for backup files and archives. Server and volume protection is managed from the panel with Backup. ### Docker vs Kubernetes: What Is the Difference? URL: https://www.portvmind.com/en/resources/docker-vs-kubernetes/ Docker tools focus on packaging an application and its dependencies as a container image, sharing that image and running it as a container. Kubernetes deploys, scales and maintains containerized workloads across a cluster of nodes. They are not direct competitors: image creation and local runtime workflows solve a different problem from multi-server orchestration. #### What does Docker do? Docker refers to more than one component. A Dockerfile defines how an image is built, Docker Build turns that definition into an image, a registry shares the image across teams and environments, and Docker Engine starts an isolated container process from it. The image packages application files, runtime, libraries and configuration assumptions in a standardized form. This workflow helps a developer use the same image on a laptop, in testing and in production infrastructure. Docker Compose groups multiple containers, networks and volumes into one application definition, making development and single-host scenarios easier. #### What does Kubernetes do? Kubernetes takes existing container images and runs them as Pods across a cluster of nodes. Objects such as Deployments declare how many replicas should exist and how updates should proceed. The scheduler places Pods on suitable nodes, while controllers continuously correct differences between actual and declared state. Resources such as Services and Ingress organize access, ConfigMaps and Secrets separate configuration from the image, and Persistent Volumes support durable data. Kubernetes does not build images or package application code. Its responsibility is deployment and lifecycle management for running container workloads. #### Key Docker and Kubernetes differences The central difference is scope. Docker provides tools for a development team to build, share and run containers. Kubernetes coordinates many application replicas, nodes, networks, configurations and persistent storage through a common declarative API. Building, securing, observing and upgrading a cluster introduces additional operational responsibility. - Purpose: building and running containers versus cluster orchestration - Scope: developer or single-host workflow versus a multi-node environment - Definition: Dockerfile and Compose versus Kubernetes API objects - Scale: manual container operations versus declarative replica management - Operations: application package versus cluster control plane and workload lifecycle #### How do Docker and Kubernetes work together? In a common workflow, a developer builds an image from a Dockerfile, runs security and functional checks, pushes it to a registry and references the image address in a Kubernetes manifest. Kubernetes pulls and starts the container through a CRI-compatible container runtime on the node. The former direct integration between Kubernetes and Docker Engine, called dockershim, has been removed. This does not prevent Docker-built images from running on Kubernetes. The image format and the runtime integration used on a Kubernetes node are separate layers; nodes use containerd, CRI-O or another supported CRI runtime. #### Docker Compose or Kubernetes? Docker Compose offers a faster start with fewer components for local development, demos, integration testing and small applications manageable on one host. A Compose file defines services, networks, volumes and environment variables together. It does not run a cluster control plane or multi-node scheduler. Kubernetes becomes relevant when multiple nodes, controlled rollouts, self-healing, namespaces and policy-based resource management are required. Not every small application needs Kubernetes. A team should weigh cluster learning, observability, security and upgrade work against the business requirement. #### What does managed Kubernetes reduce? A managed Kubernetes service can place control-plane setup, availability and selected lifecycle operations within the provider scope. Application images, manifests, resource requests and limits, secret management, network policies, application observability and data protection may remain with the customer depending on the service boundary. VKE is the open-source Kubernetes engine developed by vMind. It automatically provides node-level autoscaling, load balancers and storage classes. Supported versions and the upgrade model appear during cluster setup, and the decision should still include application responsibility. #### Frequently Asked Questions **Are Docker and Kubernetes the same thing?** No. Docker tools focus on building, sharing and running container images. Kubernetes deploys, scales and manages containerized workloads across a cluster of nodes. **Can Kubernetes run without Docker?** Yes. Kubernetes nodes require a CRI-compatible container runtime. Common options include containerd and CRI-O. The former direct dockershim integration with Docker Engine has been removed. **Can a Docker-built image run on Kubernetes?** Yes. A standard container image pushed to a registry can be pulled by a compatible runtime on the node. Removing the Docker Engine integration did not remove support for Docker-built images. **Do you need Kubernetes instead of Docker Compose?** Not always. Compose is simpler for local development and manageable single-host scenarios. Consider Kubernetes when you need multi-node placement, declarative scaling and cluster-level policies. **Does Kubernetes build container images?** No. Kubernetes retrieves and runs the image referenced in a manifest. A CI/CD workflow builds that image with Docker Build, BuildKit or another container build tool. ### GPU Workloads on Kubernetes: Time-Slicing, MIG and MPS URL: https://www.portvmind.com/en/resources/kubernetes-gpu-workloads/ Kubernetes advertises GPUs as extended node resources through a vendor device plugin and schedules them from Pod requests. Default full-GPU allocation offers strong separation but can underuse capacity for small inference or development jobs. Time-slicing shares GPU time without memory or fault isolation, MIG partitions a supported GPU into hardware-isolated instances, and MPS is a runtime service that improves concurrent execution for compatible CUDA processes. Close the choice with a representative workload measurement. #### How does GPU scheduling work in Kubernetes? Each GPU worker node needs the vendor driver and a compatible device plugin. The plugin advertises GPU capacity on the node as an extended resource. An application requests that GPU resource as a limit in its Pod definition, and the scheduler considers only nodes that can satisfy it. Clusters with different GPU models or sharing profiles can use node labels, node selectors, affinity and taint or toleration rules. The scheduler does not measure whether a model fits in memory, its inference latency or GPU utilization. Match the resource request, image, driver, CUDA libraries and node profile before deployment. #### When should you allocate a full GPU? For model training, large-batch inference, rendering and HPC jobs that use much of GPU memory, a full GPU per Pod is the most predictable starting point. Because the resource is not shared with other Pods, performance variation, memory contention and noisy-neighbor effects are reduced. Small models, low-traffic inference endpoints and development notebooks may not continuously fill GPU compute and memory. Sharing can improve utilization and cost in that case, but isolation and performance objectives must be explicit. #### What is GPU time-slicing? Time-slicing advertises multiple logical resources on one physical GPU so workloads take turns using GPU time. NVIDIA device plugin configuration can define a replica count and allocate those resources independently to Pods. This supports capacity sharing for intermittent workloads that do not saturate a GPU alone. A replica is not a guaranteed slice of physical GPU memory or compute. Time-slicing does not provide memory or fault isolation between replicas, so one workload can affect others by consuming memory or failing. Requesting more replicas also does not guarantee proportionally more GPU compute. #### What does MIG provide? Multi-Instance GPU partitions a supported NVIDIA GPU into predefined hardware profiles. Each MIG instance can be advertised to Kubernetes with separate compute and memory resources. Hardware-level memory and fault isolation helps multiple teams or inference workloads share one physical GPU with clearer boundaries. MIG is not available on every GPU model, and profile sizes depend on the hardware. Changing MIG mode or geometry can require stopping node workloads and may require a node restart in some environments. The model must fit the profile memory, while multi-GPU communication or full-GPU training should be tested separately. #### When is NVIDIA MPS useful? Multi-Process Service is a client-server runtime that helps compatible CUDA processes execute concurrently on the same GPU. When one process does not saturate the GPU, it can overlap kernel and data-copy work from different processes and reduce context-switching overhead. MPS is not hardware partitioning like MIG and does not provide multi-tenant memory or fault isolation. Test the user model, failure behavior, process accounting, memory limits and how observability tools report the MPS server. #### How should you choose time-slicing, MIG or MPS? Start with the isolation requirement. Full-GPU allocation or MIG on supported hardware gives stronger boundaries for untrusted workloads or independent teams. Time-slicing can offer simple capacity sharing for small, intermittent jobs within one trust boundary. MPS can be evaluated for compatible CUDA processes that do not saturate the GPU individually. - Full GPU: the most predictable performance and strong workload separation - Time-slicing: broad compatibility, but no memory or fault isolation - MIG: hardware profiles and isolation on supported GPUs - MPS: concurrency and utilization improvements for compatible CUDA processes #### What should you measure before production? Measure GPU utilization, peak GPU memory, request latency, throughput, queue time, error rate and job completion time with a representative model and dataset. Repeat the test with increasing concurrent Pod counts when sharing is enabled, and do not replace service objectives such as p95 or p99 latency with averages alone. VKE is the open-source Kubernetes engine developed by vMind. It automatically provides node-level autoscaling, load balancers and storage classes. Choose the sharing model from latency, memory and fault measurements on a representative workload. #### Frequently Asked Questions **Does Kubernetes detect a GPU automatically?** Not by itself. The GPU node needs the vendor driver and device plugin. The plugin advertises the resource to Kubernetes, and a Pod requests that extended resource as a limit. **Does time-slicing partition GPU memory?** No. Time-slicing shares GPU time across workloads but does not give replicas separate guaranteed memory partitions or fault isolation. **What is the difference between MIG and time-slicing?** MIG partitions a supported GPU into hardware compute and memory profiles with isolation. Time-slicing shares time on the same physical resource without memory or fault isolation. **Can MPS and MIG be used together?** Some combinations depend on the hardware, driver and MPS version, and support and isolation behavior varies by profile. Test the chosen GPU and software matrix with the real workload before production. **Does GPU sharing always reduce cost?** No. Sharing can increase utilization, but contention may increase latency or completion time and worsen total cost or service quality. Decide using concurrent load tests. ### What Is Cloud Backup? How to Plan Enterprise Backups URL: https://www.portvmind.com/en/resources/what-is-cloud-backup/ Cloud backup stores scheduled copies of your servers, volumes and application data. With PortvMind Cloud Backup you create, track and restore those copies from the panel. A snapshot is for a fast rollback; lasting protection comes from Backup. #### What is cloud backup? Cloud backup transfers recoverable copies of primary data to a different storage layer on a schedule or in response to events. The source can be a virtual-machine volume, database, Kubernetes Persistent Volume, filesystem, SaaS application or configuration repository. The goal is to return to an accepted point after deletion, corruption, a security incident or an infrastructure outage. With PortvMind Cloud Backup you create and track backups from the panel and restore the point you choose. #### Start with a data and dependency inventory Planning begins by listing the systems that require protection. Alongside databases and files, consider virtual-machine definitions, Kubernetes manifests, secrets and key management, DNS, network rules, application images and external-service dependencies. Separate data that can be reproduced from its source from data that exists in only one place. Assign a business owner, technical owner, data class, change rate and recovery priority to each asset. Customer transactions and archived logs do not necessarily need the same frequency or retention. Assets without a defined criticality are either protected at unnecessary cost or below the real requirement. #### How should RPO and RTO be defined? RPO is the most data loss you can accept. More frequent backups mean less loss. You set the frequency to match the work. RTO is how quickly you want the service back. Restore starts from the panel; the time depends on data size and the point you select. #### Snapshots and Backup A snapshot is a point-in-time image of your volume, used for a fast rollback. Backup schedules and stores copies of your servers, volumes and Kubernetes PVC resources, then restores the point you choose from the panel. Object Storage stores backup files and archives through an S3-compatible API. Scheduled protection and restore from the panel come with Backup. #### The 3-2-1 approach and access separation The 3-2-1 approach keeps several copies of critical data in different places. On PortvMind Cloud you take scheduled copies with Backup and keep archives in Object Storage. Keep backup access separate from production access. Set who can create and restore backups with console permissions. #### Backup frequency and retention policy You set backup frequency and retention to match the work. Daily, weekly or monthly points can be kept; longer retention costs more. Schedule, retention and restore target are set in the panel for each resource type. For database workloads, use Backup together with Block Storage. #### How does restore work? Restore the backup you select from the panel. Confirm the application starts and the data is in place. Be clear about who creates and restores backups. Update frequency and retention as the workload grows. #### How should backup architecture be evaluated on PortvMind Cloud? PortvMind Cloud Backup is used with Block Storage volume and Kubernetes PVC backup scenarios. Object Storage is an S3-compatible destination for application backups and archives. Plan the source, recovery point and restoration path for each data type across Compute, Block Storage, VKE, Backup and Object Storage. Choose backup frequency to match the work. Restore starts from the panel; the time depends on data size. #### Frequently Asked Questions **What is cloud backup?** Cloud backup stores scheduled copies of your servers, volumes and application data. With PortvMind Cloud Backup you create and restore those copies from the panel. **What is the difference between RPO and RTO?** RPO is the data-loss interval you can accept. RTO is how quickly you want the service back. You set the frequency; restore starts from the panel. **Is a snapshot a backup?** A snapshot is a point-in-time image of your volume, used for a fast rollback. Use scheduled Backup jobs for lasting protection. **What is the 3-2-1 backup rule?** It recommends keeping several copies of critical data in different places. On PortvMind Cloud you take scheduled copies with Backup and keep archives in Object Storage. **How often should backups be tested?** Choose backup frequency to match the work. Restore starts from the panel; after the application starts, confirm the data is in place. ### S3 Migration Checklist: How to Plan an Object Storage Move URL: https://www.portvmind.com/en/resources/s3-migration-checklist/ An S3 migration is more than copying files. A controlled move combines source inventory, required API behaviors, metadata and versions, a trial copy, an integrity check, final delta synchronization and a rollback plan. Test the operations your application uses on the target service. #### Downloadable Tools - Editable S3 migration workbook (XLSX): https://www.portvmind.com/downloads/portvmind-s3-migration-checklist.xlsx TR/EN checklists, automatic progress summary and verification log. - Printable S3 migration checklist (PDF): https://www.portvmind.com/downloads/portvmind-s3-migration-checklist.pdf Five-page field checklist in Turkish and English. - S3 migration checklist CSV (CSV): https://www.portvmind.com/downloads/portvmind-s3-migration-checklist-en.csv English table for task-management and data-tool imports. - Example S3 migration manifest (YAML): https://www.portvmind.com/downloads/s3-migration-manifest.example.yaml Credential-free scope, validation, cutover and rollback template. - Object storage compatibility tests (CSV) (CSV): https://www.portvmind.com/downloads/portvmind-s3-compatibility-checklist-en.csv 14 compatibility checks with provider-independent commands. You fill in the result column. #### 1. Build the inventory and success criteria Record buckets, object counts, total capacity and object-size distribution. Separately inventory metadata, tags, ACLs or policies, versioning, lifecycle, encryption, object lock and deleted versions because they can change copy behavior. Name application owners and define acceptable data-loss and downtime boundaries before migration. - Source buckets, prefixes, object count, capacity and largest object - Metadata, tag, version, policy, lifecycle, encryption and lock requirements - Application write pattern, owner, dependencies, maintenance window and acceptance criteria #### 2. Test S3 API compatibility against the workload Observe the operations used at the source and validate each one at the target: bucket and object creation or deletion, multipart uploads, presigned URLs, range requests, metadata, versioning, lifecycle and error codes. Exercise endpoint, region, signature version, credential flow and SDK configuration in a test environment. A successful connection does not prove every required application behavior is compatible. #### 3. Estimate duration, egress and change rate Initial-copy duration depends on more than total capacity. Object count and size distribution, request limits, available bandwidth, parallelism, source egress and target write behavior all matter. Measure data changed during the initial copy. A large final delta may require a maintenance window, temporary dual writes or several incremental synchronization passes. #### 4. Take a trial copy and check integrity Choose a representative sample containing small and large objects, multipart uploads, custom metadata and different permission patterns. In addition to object and byte totals, use checksum mechanisms supported by the target and tool, then read random samples through the application. An ETag is not a full-object checksum, particularly for multipart or some encryption workflows. Use the checksum the target supports. #### 5. Define cutover and rollback in one plan Sequence the write freeze or dual-write point, final delta synchronization, application endpoint and credential changes, cache or DNS dependencies and observation period. Write failure criteria in advance: which checksum mismatch, error rate, latency, missing metadata or permission failure triggers a return to the original target? Do not delete source data before the validation window closes. #### 6. Complete the move on PortvMind Cloud Object Storage PortvMind Cloud Object Storage provides S3-compatible buckets and file operations. Exercise the endpoint, access key and the API operations your application uses in a representative integration test. Regions are İstanbul (tr-ist-01) and Ankara (tr-ank-01). #### Frequently Asked Questions **Is an S3 sync command a complete migration plan?** No. Sync is a copy mechanism; it does not by itself resolve compatibility, versioning, metadata, permissions, integrity, application cutover or rollback. **How should object integrity be validated?** Compare object and byte counts, check supported checksum values and read representative objects through the application. An ETag is not a full-content checksum in every workflow. **Are versioning and metadata migrated automatically?** It depends on the tool and target behavior. During the trial copy, check whether all versions or only current objects move, along with metadata, tag and ACL mappings and delete markers. **Can an S3 migration be completed with no downtime?** It depends on the workload. Continuously written data may need dual writes or change capture; otherwise a short write-freeze window can be safer. Test these capabilities at both source and target. **Does PortvMind Cloud support every AWS S3 feature?** PortvMind Cloud Object Storage is an S3-compatible service. Exercise the operations you use in a representative integration test. ### Managed Kubernetes Responsibility Matrix: Who Manages What? URL: https://www.portvmind.com/en/resources/managed-kubernetes-responsibility-matrix/ Managed Kubernetes moves part of the control-plane work to the provider. Applications, images, access policy, secrets, data protection and recovery stay with the team. Write down provider scope and the team owner for every operating area. #### Downloadable Tools - Editable Kubernetes responsibility workbook (XLSX): https://www.portvmind.com/downloads/portvmind-managed-kubernetes-responsibility-matrix.xlsx TR/EN matrices, RACI menus, progress summary and test log. - Printable Kubernetes responsibility matrix (PDF): https://www.portvmind.com/downloads/portvmind-managed-kubernetes-responsibility-matrix.pdf Three-page pre-production review form in Turkish and English. - Kubernetes responsibility matrix CSV (CSV): https://www.portvmind.com/downloads/portvmind-managed-kubernetes-responsibility-matrix-en.csv English matrix for task-management and data-tool imports. - Example Kubernetes RACI manifest (YAML): https://www.portvmind.com/downloads/managed-kubernetes-responsibility-matrix.example.yaml YAML template for service scope, team roles and test references. - Kubernetes responsibility matrix (JSON) (JSON): https://www.portvmind.com/downloads/portvmind-managed-kubernetes-responsibility-matrix.json Fillable RACI schema plus a completed sample output. #### How should the responsibility matrix be used? For each row, write the provider scope, the internal accountable role and the pre-production test. The split follows the written service scope. #### Evaluate version and upgrade readiness separately Supported version differences between Kubernetes components are governed by the official version-skew policy, while provider-supported cluster versions and upgrade workflow are service-specific. Test deprecated APIs, admission webhooks, CNI or CSI, ingress controllers and monitoring add-ons in staging. Rehearse node drains, PodDisruptionBudgets and rollback boundaries before the maintenance window. #### Separate security ownership by layer Apply least privilege, separate service accounts and recurring access reviews to API access and RBAC. Clearly assign ownership for secret storage and rotation, pod security settings, image provenance and scanning, admission policy, NetworkPolicy and audit records. A managed control plane does not automatically secure an application image or an unsafe ClusterRole definition. #### Do not confuse cluster recovery with application-data recovery Control-plane resilience or a provider backup does not guarantee that PVCs, databases, object storage and application configuration can return to the intended recovery point. Inventory where state lives, define an application-consistent backup method and time a restore into a clean environment. RPO and RTO become meaningful only with the scope and result of that test. #### What does VKE provide automatically in cluster operations? VKE is the open-source Kubernetes engine developed by vMind. It automatically provides node-level autoscaling, load balancers and storage classes. #### Frequently Asked Questions **Does managed Kubernetes transfer all operations to the provider?** No. A provider may own some control-plane tasks, but applications, images, access, policy, data and recovery still need explicit team ownership. **Who patches worker nodes?** The upgrade plan records who owns node-image and operating-system updates, the schedule and the replacement method. **Does a Kubernetes backup include application data?** Not automatically. Cluster objects, PVCs, databases and external object storage may require different methods. Document scope and validate it through a clean-environment restore. **What does the application team own during a Kubernetes upgrade?** The application and platform team tests deprecated APIs, webhooks, add-ons, images, PodDisruptionBudgets and application behavior, and joins maintenance and rollback planning. **Does managed Kubernetes imply GPU-node support?** Managed Kubernetes on its own does not mean a GPU node. VKE automatically provides node-level autoscaling, load balancers and storage classes. ### How to Choose a GPU Server for an AI Workload URL: https://www.portvmind.com/en/resources/how-to-choose-a-gpu-server/ Choosing a GPU server does not start with picking a model name; it starts with writing down what the workload does. Define whether it is training or inference, whether the model and working data fit into GPU memory, and how quickly the job must finish. Then narrow the GPU model against that definition and size CPU, RAM, storage and network at the same time: if the slowest link is not the GPU, a faster GPU will not change the outcome. Close the decision with a representative trial run on your own data. #### Define the workload first A GPU choice is not a technical preference; it is the output of a workload definition. Training and fine-tuning are long-running, memory-intensive and often multi-GPU jobs, while inference is short, frequent and latency-sensitive. The same model name implies a different server configuration in these two scenarios. Write the definition down: which model family, which precision, which batch size, which data volume and which completion target. Once these five fields are filled in, the candidate list narrows on its own and the discussion moves from product names to measurable requirements. - Will you run training, fine-tuning or inference only? - Do model weights and working data fit into a single GPU memory space? - What is the acceptable completion time or response latency? - Will the workload run continuously or be triggered periodically? #### GPU model decision table The table below places PortvMind Cloud GPU / AI Compute models against workload profiles. Each row shows which workload the model fits. #### A GPU alone is not enough: the resource chain The speed of an AI workload is set by the slowest link in the chain, not by the GPU. If data loading is CPU-bound, if the dataset arrives slowly over the network, or if checkpoints cannot be written to storage, the GPU sits idle. A faster GPU then raises cost without shortening runtime. After selecting the GPU model, size CPU cores, system memory, persistent storage and network capacity in the same table. PortvMind Cloud GPU / AI Compute can relate GPU resources to Compute, VKE/Kubernetes and S3-compatible Object Storage inside one workload architecture, so the chain can be planned as a single architectural decision. - CPU and RAM: can data preparation, augmentation and loader processes keep the GPU fed? - Storage: do checkpoint writes and dataset reads stall the training step? - Network: does inter-node transfer become the bottleneck in multi-node training? - Runtime: does the job run continuously, or is the resource allocated periodically? #### Close the decision with a representative trial Close the selection with a representative trial that uses your own model and your own data. General comparisons leave out your pipeline, precision and batch behaviour. A representative trial ties the decision to a measurable result. Record not only total runtime but also GPU utilization, memory occupancy and pipeline wait times. If GPU utilization is low, the problem is not the GPU model but another link in the chain, and that link should be fixed before the selection is changed. - Run the trial with the production data pipeline and precision settings. - Record GPU utilization, memory occupancy and wait time together. - If the target is missed, change the bottleneck first and the GPU model second. - Store the decision note together with its date, configuration and measurement result. #### Frequently Asked Questions **Which GPU model should I choose for an AI workload?** It depends on workload type and memory requirement. H200 is evaluated for memory-intensive training and large-context inference, H100 for a broad training and HPC range, and L40S for continuous inference and visualization-heavy scenarios. Close the decision with a representative trial on your own data. **Should I start GPU selection from memory?** Yes. If model weights, activations and working data do not fit into GPU memory, the job either fails to run or must be partitioned. Memory requirement determines which models stay on the list before any performance discussion. **Does a more powerful GPU always deliver a faster result?** No. If the workload is CPU-, storage- or network-bound, the GPU waits idle and a faster GPU will not shorten runtime. Measure GPU utilization first; if it is low, the bottleneck is elsewhere in the chain. **Can the same server configuration serve training and inference?** It can, but it is rarely the most efficient option. Training is long-running and memory-intensive, while inference is short, frequent and latency-sensitive. Measure utilization and latency targets separately before running both on one configuration. **Should you prefer cloud GPU or a physical server?** For short experiments, periodic training and variable inference demand, cloud access can reduce hardware procurement and operations effort. For continuous, predictable high utilization, physical investment should be modelled against total cost of ownership. ## Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) URL: https://www.portvmind.com/en/faq/ ### What is PortvMind Cloud?
